Welcome to my website on odonata.
To begin with…. what is or are odonata, you might ask? For the uninitiated, odonata are all those members of the insect family that include damselflies and dragonflies. These large carnivorous insects that are a familiar sight over most bodies of water during the summer months are found in every continent of the world, with the single exclusion of the Antarctic. Please see further to learn about these fascinating creatures.
These beautiful creatures are a particular interest of mine and I hope you enjoy this website. It attempts to cover three areas of interest:
- firstly, to provide as many examples of species found in Europe – particularly northern Europe which is where I live;
- secondly, I will provide descriptions of places I visit (including a map reference) which I have found to be particularly interesting with regard the range and type of species;
- thirdly, to provide some technical information on the equipment I use (i.e. cameras, binoculars, etc.) when enjoying my hobby.
